Plasmid as a vector (page 2)

Naturally occurring plasmid must be modified in order to be used as cloning vector. Commercially designed plasmid vectors contain a multiple cloning region for your DNA of interest. This region is an area of the plasmid vector that contains many common restrictions enzyme sites. The advantage of a multiple cloning region is that you have choice of restriction enzyme sites to use when extracting the DNA of interest from the genome of the organism from which it was obtained to put it in the plamid vector.
